BANK is pleased to announce that Michael Najjar will be featured in the inaugural double exhibition of Fotografiska Shenzhen, with works presented in his solo exhibition Morphing Equilibrium and the group exhibition Transcendent Realities. Fotografiska Shenzhen will hold its opening preview on September 30, 2026, with public opening on October 1, 2026.
Michael Najjar's solo presentation Morphing Equilibrium is among the opening exhibitions of the new Fotografiska Shenzhen, making its debut in this futuristic city. The large-scale immersive video installation is a site-specific work created specifically for the museum. The exhibition addresses the reshaping of the Earth system under a dramatically accelerating climate crisis, engaging with the profound transformation and reconfiguration our world is currently undergoing. Volcanic eruptions, tsunami waves, and Arctic ice worlds form the visual and metaphorical framework, pointing to the collapse of existing structures and the emergence of new worlds.
In the concurrent group exhibition Transcendent Realities, six artists who have each presented solo exhibitions at Fotografiska Shanghai between 2023 and 2026 are brought together at Fotografiska Shenzhen for the first time, where their practices enter into a new dialogue shaped by a different city, spatial context, and conditions of viewing.
Michael Najjar contributes netropolis | shenzhen | 2024, which is being exhibited for the first time in the very city where it was created. Photographed at an elevation of 440 meters from the KK100 Tower, the work merges views in all four cardinal directions into a single pictorial space. Their interpenetration creates a fabric-like structure, in which spatiotemporal expansions, compressions, and reconstructions emerge as a metaphor for the abstract and seemingly infinite data horizon of the megacity.
