The Bank Show

29 March - 24 May 2015 Shanghai
Overview

It is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of the current order of capitalism. – Fredric Jameson

“The BANK Show, Vive le Capital” explores, celebrates, and critiques the omnipresent power of global finance through its site-specific venue, the former Bank Union building (est. 1925). From early incarnations of international banking on Shanghai’s Bund to the accelerated 21st century, the fate of humanity has become more and more contingent on the oscillation of global capital. Through this exhibition twenty-three artists examine experiences with multinational capitalism: its virtues and vices, catches and loopholes, and what it renders visible or precarious along a discursive discourse from Marx to Piketty.
