BANK is delighted to present the works of Liang Hao at Gallery Weekend Beijing 2026.

In this solo project titled Visitors, Liang Hao restores the exhibition space to a working studio — a place where creation happens, where ideas leave their traces, and where suspended gestures wait for someone to arrive.

A tall wooden wall stands at the entrance, half‑open, half‑closed, just enough to slow you down. On it hangs a small painting of stacked books, like a quiet signal that you are about to step into someone else’s space. Put on the headphones and your visit begins.

Two enormous paintings of hands face each other like mirrors on the main wall. There is a ritual quality to their staged precision, but the playful, uncertain gestures lend them a strange, misplaced solemnity. Turn to the left wall. Two paintings of a sanatorium, taken from different angles, share a quiet palette, as if lost memories were rewritten, then blurred back to the start.

Behind the wooden wall, a video is embedded: a solitary figure in the wilderness, fishing for stones. A different kind of Sisyphus. It echoes those solemn, almost theatrical hand gestures in the paintings, as if together they complete a meaning that only exists inside gestures done for no reason. Fragments of noise drift through the headphones as the visitor moves through the images — letting connections appear on their own. And still the visitors explore. More paintings sit on the bookshelf or slip into the drawers, like scattered clues, waiting to be gathered and reordered.

There is something of Courbet’s The Painter’s Studio here: person and space forming an installation. The studio is somehow the outer shell of the artist’s consciousness. The canvas is space, while space itself becomes canvas.
