BANK is pleased to participate in the 「2026 ART021 FOTO | SIGMA」 project, presenting the Sheens series by artist Simon Song 红薯 .
Jointly presented by ART021 GROUP and the optics brand SIGMA , the project takes place from November 1 to December 13, 2026, at the SIGMA Showroom at Columbia Circle, Shanghai. Centered on the core question “WHAT MAKES A GOOD IMAGE?” the exhibition invites participants to respond through photography and broader image-making practices.
As one of 24 participating galleries, BANK chose Simon Song's Sheens series as it offers a profound response to the fair's central question. Taking the concept of "hand sheen"—the traces left by touch on the surfaces of everyday objects—as its starting point, the series combines images collected from daily life with manual darkroom processing to build up the thickness of the image. The works are not merely figurative freeze-frames, but "open containers" that refuse closure, responding to the exhibition’s central question of how a good image continues to grow through deep looking.
Simon Song (b. 1985, Luoyang) holds an MA in Photography and Urban Culture from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BA in Photography from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. He currently lives and works in Shanghai and teaches Photography at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. His work has been featured in media such as Modern Weekly, Tatler China, Wallpaper China, and Radii.
