Michael Lin: Tea Towels and Serviettes
at La Loge, Brussels
BANK is pleased to share that Michael Lin will present his first solo exhibition in Belgium, Tea Towels and Serviettes, at La Loge, Brussels, from September 10 to December 6, 2026. Lin is an influential artist from a generation of Taiwanese practitioners who gained international prominence in the 1990s and 2000s, a group that played a pivotal role in bringing contemporary art from Asia onto the global stage.
Lin is known for his vivid, expansive works that draw on traditional Taiwanese textile patterns. His practice operates at the intersection of visual art, design, and craft, and has been widely presented in leading biennials and international museum exhibitions.
His exhibition Tea Towels and Serviettes marks his first solo presentation in Belgium, offering a unique opportunity to introduce his practice within this context. On this occasion, Lin will create a large-scale, site-specific installation at La Loge.
For La Loge, Michael Lin will develop a floor-based installation covering the entire ground level of the building. This project continues a line of large-scale interventions in which the floor becomes the primary support. The work consists of hand-painted wooden panels that together form a continuous floor surface. The patterns Lin employs are drawn from decorative motifs associated with domestic environments, including textiles and everyday household objects such as tea towels. By extracting these visual elements from their original context and re-situating them within an institutional space, he transforms the ordinary into a monumental, shared experience.
Public Program
The floor installation by Michael Lin is conceived not only as a visual intervention, but as an open spatial condition that invites activation. Rather than functioning as a static work, it proposes itself as a shared space that is inhabited and temporarily transformed through use.
Throughout the exhibition period, La Loge will become a platform for a range of activities that engage with Lin’s practice or reflect broader aspects of Taiwanese culture, while also considering the artistic and social role of La Loge as a site for encounter and knowledge-sharing through formats centred on dialogue, encounter, and exchange.

La Loge is a Brussels-based space dedicated to contemporary art, with an emphasis on research and reflection that began in 2012. Its aim is to develop a critical programme that emerges from the connection to the context it is embedded in.
