BANK is pleased to share that artist Patty Chang will participate in Asia Forum 2026: Minor Feelings, organized by Fondazione Querini Stampalia during the 2026 Venice Biennale. The forum takes place on May 9, coinciding with the 61st Venice Biennale. Chang’s video work We Are All Mothers (2022) will be presented as part of the screening program.
The forum’s title, Minor Feelings, is borrowed from the acclaimed book by Korean American poet and essayist Cathy Park Hong. It explores the emotional and psychological terrain of the Asian diaspora — the quiet dissonance that arises when one’s lived reality is persistently contradicted by dominant narratives. Taking this as its point of departure, the forum also proposes rest and love as anti-colonial practices in their own right: ways of tending to what extraction and erasure have depleted, and of insisting that to nurture one another is also to resist.
Within this framework, Patty Chang’s We Are All Mothers (2022, 19min 52s) is invited to the screening program. The work continues the artist’s long-standing engagement with the body, caregiving, family, and ecology. Through a restrained yet deeply affecting visual language, Chang examines the layered meanings of motherhood — personal and political, physical and emotional. The film speaks to the often unspoken experiences of care and intergenerational emotion that persist beneath the surface of dominant narratives.
