BANK is thrilled to share that Hito Steyerl’s Mechanical Kurds is now on view at MACRO Museo di Arte Contemporanea, Rome, from 29 April through 30 August 2026. The exhibition is curated by Alice Labor and forms part of MACRO’s 2026 exhibition season.
Commissioned in 2025 by Jeu de Paume in Paris and the New Museum in New York, Mechanical Kurds is presented in Italy for the first time on this occasion. Combining a single-channel video installation with immersive spatial elements, the work reflects on the entangled relationships between digital labour, artificial intelligence, geopolitical conflict, and image production.
Through documentary and fictional registers, the work reveals the bodies, territories, and political violence that remain obscured within the infrastructures of AI image-making and digital economies.
