Overview
Slow Down to Hurry Up, 1690 Art Collection Space, Shanghai, China

1690 Art Collections Space, in collaboration with BANK, presents the works of eight young artists from China and abroad, whose works either embody moments of immersion in the world of solitude. For example, Alvin Ong's works represent the private, everyday, and intimate moments of a young urbanite's day; or they challenge the traditional medium of painting, such as Andrew Chapman's “Running Free” from his “Slide” series, in which he wonderfully cuts up the canvas and installs snaps to disguise the work as a package for other paintings. This kind of work between suggestion and reality is also a response to the nature of painting nowadays; Lin Ke's “PS Cat” from his “Sky Painting” series is inspired by the physical exploration of the electronic world of images, and Photoshop as a kind of interface between electronic images and the real, creating a new kind of painting that can be used as an interface between electronic images and the real. Photoshop serves as an interface between the electronic image and the real, creating an optical and wireless approach to the exploration of materialized layers. The works of Yini Geng, Miguel Ángel Payano Jr. and Jennifer Wen all use shaped and three-dimensional paintings and sculptures to explore hometowns, personal connections to society and the world of comics. Tim Crowley's work romantically expresses a poetic response to life in “future poster paintings.

The group exhibition “Looseness and Degree” reflects the artists' understanding and exploration of the inward-looking world, challenging the experience of drawing and painting in a non-traditional and highly personal way, in response to a paradigmatic world.
