Duyi Han (1994) is an artist and designer specializing in avant-garde aesthetic research and production. With a background in architectural design, Duyi Han works in sculpture, furniture, scenography, and digital art. With rigorous craft, taste, and concept, his work blurs art and design, physical and virtual.
Duyi Han’s work focuses on holistic aesthetic experiences. He considers the design of his objects and environments as “neuroaesthetic prescriptions” ——intricate semiotics of beauty algorithmically guided by the Tao of time and change.
Inspired by Taoist philosophy and contemporary pharmaceutical practices, this approach is formless but incarnates into specific appearances in each project. Duyi Han draws references from diverse contexts. By remixing and mutating “ingredients of beauty” in an algorithmic way, he “prescribes” visual content to evoke feelings.
Duyi Han researches on the evolution of visual culture and how this relates to human emotion, zeitgeist, and mechanisms of the universe. Duyi Han investigates how such an understanding of change could bring meaningful contributions to today’s visual culture.
Duyi Han’s work has been recognized by multidisciplinary awards and media platforms in more than 20 languages. His work is in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). His Ordinance of the Subconscious Treatment is named among the 12 best installations at Milan Design Week by Architectural Digest. Duyi Han’s work has been in numerous international exhibitions. He has served as a judge at international design competitions and as an advisor at leading art and design schools. He has collaborated with brands including Dior.
Duyi Han is currently based in Shanghai and travels internationally.
