BANK/MABSOCIETY is honored to launch The Book about Xu Bing’s Book from the Ground, edited by Mathieu Borysevicz and published by MIT Press / Mass MoCA (English) and Guangxi Normal University Press (Chinese). On this occasion BANK’s project space will be reconfigured into a reading room where this publication along with Xu Bing’s Book from the Ground - From Point to Point, will be presented together with related artworks by Xu Bing.
Xu Bing’s Book from the Ground is an extensive, seven-year, and still ongoing, project that explores the possibilities of universal communication via the language of icons. Book from the Ground culminated in 2010 with From Point to Point, a narrative novel composed entirely of icons, ideograms, and logos. The Book about Xu Bing’s Book from the Ground is a reader’s guide to this novel and presents archival material, interviews, texts, and translation of this momentous work. It provides individual insights from semioticians, authors, art critics, as well as the artist’s own words and background stories about Xu Bing’s breakthrough Book from the Ground.
