Shi Hui's work series Writing-Non-writing II is on view in the exhibition “Restart: Metaphysics 2024” at Being Art Museum in Pudong, Shanghai. Writing-Non-writing II utilizes calligraphy as a carrier, which is interpreted through knotting and twisting, creating an intertextualization of the unfamiliar and the familiar, the traditional and the contemporary.
The series of abstract art exhibitions named “Metaphysics” is an academic brand founded by senior curator Li Xu since 2001, which has been held in Shanghai Art Museum for four times, becoming a classic academic project in the development of abstract art in China. This year's edition focuses on the important abstract works of Shanghai artists (including Shanghai artists or artists living in Shanghai) in recent years, including Ding Yi, Liang Quan, Liu Jianhua, Qu Fengguo, Shi Hui, Yang Mushi, Zhang Enli, Zhang Jianjun and other artists.
