Wang Rui's paper artwork Freedom, Innocence, Autumn Ying, Fireworks and Dimension 15cmx42cmis currently on display at the "Era of Encore" exhibition at the Beijing Times Art Museum. The work consists of 10 graphite paintings on paper and wood panels covered with lace. With this artwork, the artist tries to restore the childlike way of applying paint. Without the motivation of shaping, and without the need to care about details, only traces, materials, and graphics are left behind. "Excess, it is the opposite of depth." Simple and similar graphics serve as emotional links and pleasurable intentions. Is it possible to reach purity by returning to the original place of painting?
This exhibition is inspired by what British historian Eric Hobsbawm has called the "curtain call" of the "short twentieth century", and the new era that is upon us after the "curtain call". This exhibition is jointly presented by Beijing Times Art Museum and Beijing Dang Dai Art Fair. The exhibition focuses on young artists, born around the 90's, and their artworks. A total of 70 pieces/groups of works by 32 artists are on display, of which 26 are new works created specificly for this exhibition.
