Ching Ho Cheng @Today Art Museum, Beijing

Ching Ho Cheng’s Sun Drawing Study is on view at To Your Eternity, the technology-themed biennial held by the Today Art Museum in Beijing. Created in 1967, this drawing is the study for Sun Drawing which belongs to the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art. The exhibited work of Ching Ho Cheng was produced in his first creative period after his graduation from Cooper Union, the Psychedelic period. Works produced in this period were largely gouache/ink-based and were greatly inspired by the Spiritual Symbolism of Tibetan art. Beneath the dynamic and invigorating expression are months of exquisite composition and pondering, reflecting the dominating influence of orientalism, post-modernism, and anti-war ideologies during the 1960s in the United States.
