Founded in 2013 as a curatorial studio in Shanghai’s historic Bund district, BANK has developed into an internationally active commercial gallery and cultural platform connecting China with the global art ecosystem. Now located in the former residence of He Dong in central Shanghai, BANK expanded to New York in 2025, strengthening its transnational presence.

BANK produces exhibitions, publications, and art fair presentations, alongside educational initiatives and cultural advisory services for institutions and private clients. The gallery works in close dialogue with artists, collectors, curators, and institutions, fostering artistic development and cross-regional cultural exchange.

Since its founding, BANK has earned international critical recognition for its programming and curatorial direction and is increasingly recognized as a key platform for contemporary art practice and discourse across Asia and the United States.

Mathieu Borysevicz is the founder of BANK/MABSOCIETY, established in Shanghai in 2013 as a gallery and curatorial platform with an international scope. His work has focused on long-term artistic development, research-driven exhibitions, market and cross-cultural exchange between Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Prior to founding BANK, Borysevicz served as Director of the Shanghai Gallery of Art at Three on the Bund where he introduced one of the first internationally oriented exhibition programs in China. Earlier in his career, he was Shanghai Editor of Artforum and has written extensively for publications including Art in America, ARTAsia Pacific, Art Review, Modern Painters, and LEAP.

He is the author of several critically acclaimed, widely held publications, including Learning from Hangzhou (recipient of the DAM Frankfurt Book Award) and The Book About Xu Bing’s Book From the Ground (MIT Press).

Borysevicz has been involved in contemporary art in China since the 1990s and continues to work across Asia and the United States, focusing on advisory work, collection development, and the governance of long-term cultural projects.
