Fang Wei 方巍 China, b. 1968

Fang Wei’s haunting and idyllic images aim to capture the tenuous signals of consciousness- the point in between conception, registration and short-term memory. “I like to explore the point where you see something, look away and try to picture what you have just seen” the author states. Painting oils to look like watercolors is the artist’s technical departure point for his enigmatic works.

Fang Wei, spent 15 years living in Japan before returning to Shanghai where he worked in the art world for many years. He has held solo shows at Shanghai Gallery of Art and participated in many group exhibitions. His work is in the DSL Collection and many private collections worldwide.
