Jiang Cheng 姜琤 China, b. 1985

Jiang Cheng (b. 1985 in Zhejiang, China) lives and works in Shanghai, China. He received his MFA from the University of the Arts Berlin in 2012, and his BA from China Academy of Art 2008. Jiang Cheng's practice revolves around "seeing and the structures it produces." Since 2018, his "U" series has developed a painterly language rooted in physicality, where images emerge through layered paint. Shaped entirely by physical and bodily conditions, painting takes shape in the liminal space between seeing and not-seeing.

His recent solo exhibitions include "The Shiver", Tara Downs, New York, US (2025); "Jiang Cheng", and ICA Miami, Miami, US (2022). His recent group exhibitions include "360°: Why We Paint?", BY ART MATTERS, Hangzhou (2025); Gagosian, Hong Kong (2023); The Margulies Collection, Miami, US (2022); "Regarde-moi", Perrotin, Paris, France (2022).
