BANK is proud to present Mr. Zheng by Polit-Sheer-Form Office as a part of the Special Projects at the 3rd edition of ASIA NOW in Paris opening on 18th October and continuing through 22nd October.
Mr. Zheng was the personification of PSFO’s idea that ‘We become I’. The portrait of a man staring blankly out of a starched white shirt looks like any ID photo used to catalog individuals in society. However this image is a composite portrait of the group’s five members. Like a child, Mr. Zheng embodies the characteristics of each parent, while at the same time retaining his own unique quality. For a public art project Mr. Zheng’s solemn portrait was hung in public spaces throughout Shanghai, helping to incite the memory of a bygone era when leaders’ portraits were ubiquitous. Mr. Zheng, however, is only a portrait, a symbol, an icon, a fictitious play on the void that Socialism has left upon society.
