2024 Esther Art Fair

30 April - 4 May 2024

BANK is pleased to be part of the inaugural Esther art fair, presenting two artists whose works resonate with the beaux arts architecture and eclectic adaptation of Estonian House: Oliver Herring and Bony Ramirez.

The fictional characters in Bony Ramirez’ works reverberate with his personal history: his rural upbringing in the Dominican Republic, his first encounters with Catholic imagery, and his deep interest in sources as varied as Italian mannerism, Renaissance portraiture, and children's illustrations.

Areas for Action, a 16-minute video work by Herring, incorporates the renovation of a Mao-era silk factory in Wuzhen, a historic water town on the Yangtze River. The site is to become a contemporary art complex, and the transformation from old to new is an integral and narrative component of the resulting work.

Esther Art Fair will feature presentations by 25 international galleries at the New York Estonian House, a four-story Beaux-Arts building designed by Brooklyn architect Thomas A. Gray in 1899. As a high-profile parallel art fair, it aims to differentiate itself by encouraging potential exhibitors to apply with projects that respond to the unique architecture and history of the Estonian House.
