FU is a special project by Liao Guohe exclusively commissioned for Art021. The integral part of the piece conveys ancient Chinese characteristics whereby entering an installation entitled FU QI (The Utensil of Good Fortune) a blessing ritual is initiated. A series of new paintings, all initialed FU (Good Fortune), are shown in tandem with the installation.
These new works illustrate a transformation in Liao’s painting’s style. According to Liao Guohe, it is the touching, peaceful, far-reaching and mysterious atmosphere generated by these works that will most likely bring tears to your eyes. On site, through the spiritual exchange with The Utensil of Good Fortune and the interactive mental activity of Good Fortune visitors will have the chance to earn blessings for themselves, their family and friends.
On VIP day, the artist has invited a Buddhist master to instruct each visitor through the blessing ritual. The artist asks that you bring your heart and mind, and simply be open to embracing each blessing.
BANK will also present a special project of Xu Bing, the "Book from the Ground --- Concept store". After the presentation of Xu Bing’s “Book from the Ground—-Concept Store” at Art in the City in September, BANK will bring back this special space project for Art 021.
The artist has turned signs into practical consumer objects. All kinds of daily suppliers such as clothes, umbrellas, clocks, cups and jewelries comprise Book From the Ground merchandise. Visitors can shop or browse the consumable “icons” inside a three-dimensional manifestation of the symbol for “store”. This interactive consumer experience once again reminds us of the close relationship between signs and our daily life.
