West Bund Art&Design Fair 2020

11 - 15 November 2020
BANK is honored to present artist Yibei Zhang's work in Westbund Art & Design 2020 xiàn chăng section. “Body and tail of snake" is borrowed from Aesop's fable wherein the snake's tail quarrels with its head, insisting that he should lead the way. However, as the tail has no eyes nor brains, it eventually leads the body over a cliff to its death. The moral of this story of conflict and tragedy is to know one’s place in the world. The artist expresses this visually in her coiled sculptures whereby the main core of the spring in its most extended posture balances power. Glass bubbles and high-voltage resistors placed along the main spine, both eerily figurative and ornamental, expose inherent contradictions with a seemingly peaceful aura.
